About PM Surya Ghar Yojana
It's a central government scheme launched in February 2024 that gives homeowners a direct subsidy for installing a grid-connected rooftop solar system. A correctly sized system can bring your monthly electricity bill close to zero, which is why it's called 'Muft Bijli' (free electricity).
Eligibility
Any Indian citizen who owns a residential property with a valid electricity connection and suitable rooftop space can apply. Group housing societies and resident welfare associations can also apply for common-area installations.
Subsidy & Cost
The central subsidy is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW, capping at ₹78,000 for a 3 kW system — the maximum under the central scheme regardless of how much larger your system is. Special category states can receive higher amounts, up to ₹1,17,000.
Application Process & Documents
You register on the official portal (pmsuryaghar.gov.in) with your state, DISCOM, and electricity consumer number, then select an empanelled vendor — we handle this part for you end-to-end, from registration to final subsidy disbursement tracking.
System, Installation & Technical
It depends on your average monthly electricity consumption and available roof space — most urban homes in our service area go with a 2–3 kW system. Share your last few months' bills with us and we'll recommend the right size during your free site visit.
Net Metering & Billing
Net metering is the arrangement with your DISCOM that lets you send excess solar power you generate back to the grid in exchange for bill credits, and draw from the grid when your panels aren't producing enough (like at night). It's what makes your bill drop instead of just running two separate meters.
Maintenance & Warranty
Very little — mainly periodic panel cleaning (dust and bird droppings reduce output) and an occasional visual check of wiring and mounting. We recommend cleaning every 2–4 weeks depending on local dust levels, more frequently in summer.
Financing & Loans
Yes — several public sector banks offer collateral-free solar loans specifically for rooftop solar under this scheme, often at favorable interest rates. Ask us and we'll point you to current options and help with the paperwork.
Service Area & Support
We're focused on Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, with Dehradun, Haridwar, and Saharanpur as our primary service hubs, and we serve additional cities across India as our installation network grows — check our footer for the full current list.
